Lobshot is an artillery duel for two players and one Playdate. You take turns, and each turn lasts 30 seconds. Crank to set the angle, hold A to charge the power, and let go to lob a shell across the map. Then hand the Playdate to your friend.
A dotted arc previews the shot while you aim, and it stretches out as you charge. The crank keeps working after you fire: turn it while the shell is in the air to add spin and curve the shot. The wind bends it too. A windsock next to the minimap shows which way it blows, and the number beside it shows how strong it is. A small marker under the power meter shows how hard you threw last time, so you can adjust from there.
Every blast digs a crater, so the ground changes as the match goes on, and a fighter who drops off the map is out. Supply crates parachute in every two turns. Walk into one or shoot it to collect an item: a double shot, a shell that splits in three, a warp to wherever your shell lands, or 30 HP of healing. You can carry three.
There are eleven fighters, and each has an ultimate. It charges as you deal and take damage, and a little more at the start of each of your turns. Fire one and the game freezes for an anime-style cut-in of your fighter. When any shell is about to land a hit, the camera zooms in on the target and time slows down until the blast.
Bolt’s thunder shot ignores the wind. Fenn’s shell bounces twice. Moss grows a leafy bridge, Pip fires a laser in a dead straight line, Dune drills through the ground, and Neko’s panic button drops three bombs from the sky. Boo’s shot ghosts through the first wall it touches, Bruno’s megaton digs the biggest crater in the game, Gust’s cyclone blows foes toward the pits, Mags’ magnet shot homes in, and Vex’s life drain heals you for the damage it deals. Pick one of eight arenas, from floating sky isles to a sleeping volcano, each with its own soundtrack. After a match, press A for a rematch on a fresh layout.
